As a business grows, it might expand to multiple shops or offices across the country and around the world. To keep things running efficiently, the people working in those locations need a fast, secure and reliable way to share information across computer networks. In addition, traveling employees like salespeople need an equally secure and reliable way to connect to their business’s computer network from remote locations.

One popular technology to accomplish these goals is a VPN (virtual private network). A VPN is a private network that uses a public network (usually the Internet) to connect remote sites or users together. The VPN uses “virtual” connections routed through the Internet from the business’s private network to the remote site or employee. By using a VPN, businesses ensure security — anyone intercepting the encrypted data can’t read it.

VPN was not the first technology to make remote connections. Several years ago, the most common way to connect computers between multiple offices was by using a leased line. Leased lines, such as ISDN (integrated service Read the rest of this entry »

One of the greatest difficulties when doing a transfer (migration) of the Windows operating system to Linux is the problem of our lack of knowledge about software that is often or usually we use everyday. Usually people will look for the Windows software that uses the analogy of Linux, although Linux users are often unable to meet their needs due to lack of knowledge of systems programming in Windows. The following table can be a bit hopefully help us to be or have been migrating from Windows to Linux to find software that suits their needs. This table is always changing in accordance with the development of software applications are continuously updated at any time.

Note:
By default all Linux programs in this table are free / fratis at large | Free as in Freedom (The definition of Free Software: FSF and Debian). Software is compatible with Linux is marked with [Prop]. Software that is not free – Non-free software (generally free opensource / free, but have certain limitations) are marked with [NF].
If none of the fields in the table, except “???” it means the author table does not know what to put there.
If the sign (???) located after the program name then it means the author’s tables do not know for sure about these programs.

The speed improvement is most visible with IDE drives, but there are reports that this tweak is not good for SCSI disks.

memory

LONDON – Neuroscientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have found a chemical way to make mice forget bad memories. If successful, it is not possible this could be applied to humans who want to erase the memory kelamnya.

By disabling a ‘memory gene’, Npas 4, they found that the mice will ‘forget’ their fear of the space in which they previously had been given electric shocks. The scientists believe that they could be ‘closure’ on the brain area where the long-term memories are stored and techniques for controlling these memories. The researchers thought that the gene could be very important for all types of memory.

This test begins when ilmuwa began investigating the genetic mechanisms of memory formation, researchers gave mice a mild electric shock when they enter a particular space. In a few minutes, the rat was frightened for his own rat

usb

LAS VEGAS – Port USB 3.0 will reach out to smart phones and tablets at the end of this year or early next year. This port will allow faster data transfer.

PC World proclaimed, Monday (01/09/2012), Chief Technology Officer of the USB Implementers Forum Rahman Ismail said that smart phones and tablets will likely get a MicroUSB port, USB 3.0 based technology to fit its small size.

The ports allow higher speeds in data transfer between handheld devices with the master device such as a PC. Some PCs, is now equipped with USB 3.0 technology, but most are still using USB 2.0 technology. The average speed achieved approximately 100Mbps data transfer, or in the rough can reach 800Mbps.

“The former takes 15 minutes, roughly, will turn into a 1 minute 10 seconds,” said Ismail. Read the rest of this entry »
